E-learning content for International Baccalaureate

The Process

The International Baccalaureate Organization approached language instructors of all stripes at the UW-Madison to see if any of us could provide teacher-training courses for their online learning program.

We were tasked with pitching course ideas, with the format and scope being left to us, as long as the course was delivered in relatively bite-sized learning modules.

My course ideas were accepted, and I got
to creating them in Articulate Rise to be part of the first true e-learning program
IB was offering, in a new, pay for content element of their course offerings.

My first two courses, Visual Storytelling
to Teach Tenses
and Critical Thinking in Academic Paper Writing, came from years
of experience working with students who struggle in both areas, and talking to teachers who were looking for new ways
to improve verb tense retention and boost critical thinking skills.

Teacher training course creation for new preschool assessment, myIGDIs

The Process

While working at Renaissance, I was asked to take on several challenging assignments. The biggest was to create a new course based on old slide decks and paper training materials. We had just purchased the myIGDIs assessment from Dr. Scott McConnell, Director of Assessment Innovation at Renaissance, and an Educational Psychologist, who became my SME.

Dr. McConnell and I worked closely, together with the original PD course creator, to convert materials to a learning suite of e-learning (through Captivate), video, PowerPoint sessions, and other learning support materials. These were all done during lockdown, which meant having to be creative in how we did videos especially.
